I have the honour to enclose, in original to be

Nov:1900 returned, a letter which we have received from the Hong Kong y Act

men Bond

of 1898 & Shanghai Banking Corporation requesting us to release from

"the securities deposited with us against the Note Issue of

the Bank:-

I. £68,000. 24 % Consols in exchange for £75,000 2 %

Greek Guaranteed Loan.

Rs.10,00,000 34% Rupee Paper in exchange for

Rs.9,75,000 Bombay Improvement Trust 4% Loan

The Greek Loan is that which is guaranteed by this country, France and Russia, and the Bombay Improvement Trust Loan is issued under an Act passed by the Government of India which in effect makes the Government of India responsible for the raising of the Loan and for payment of the Interest and Sinking Fund, see sections 52, 56 and 80-82.

3. These securities would therefore appear to be such as can properly be accepted and we propose, with the Secretary of State's approval, to proceed with the exchange desired by

the Bank.
